Mama Bear Loves to Dance
2017
51" x 67"
The “paw” motif from the traditional Bear Paw block moves, jumps, rotates, inverts, flips, and sidesteps. Every block is a repeat of the “paw,” sized and assembled exactly the same way; the only difference is the placement and selection of the black and white fabric. The eye keeps moving through lines and points in a play of contrast created by the relative position of the blocks. Figures pop in and out. Viewed from far away, there is the suggestion of a larger scale repetitive pattern similar to the typical four-paw configuration of the traditional Bear Paw block.
